Koval's Distillery Tour: The perfect fall outing

Time Out Chicago and Liquor.com highlighted Koval's tour as a must see for sights and tours around Chicago. If you haven't yet made it up to our Andersonville location on the north side of Chicago - we have many tours available for November and December. The tour includes samples of our white and aged whiskeys, liqueurs and brandy. If you ask your tourguide nicely (either Meg, Kristine, or Jason!), then you could also be treated to a taste of our limited edition Bierbrand. Tours are every Wed at 7pm and Sat at 3pm and 5pm. Sign up here, as spots go fast!

Bierbrand. Yes, we distilled a beer.

Bierbrand (beer-brahnt): A liquor distilled from beer. We visited our next door neighbors, Metropolitan Brewery, and ended up taking back a beer to distill (not just one bottle, of course). Using their Krankshaft Lager, this beer distillate has the aroma of hops and barley and a finish like a fine grappa. We recommend stopping into The Beer Bistro and asking for it as a back to your favorite local beer. It's only around for a limited time...we only made one batch.

New Organic Liqueurs to debut in Chicago this December

We have been busy for the holidays! Our new Walnut Liqueur and Asian Pear Liqueur are going to be available this December.

Walnut Liqueur

Many grandmother’s are known for their skills in the kitchen, few are known for their spirited libations. Luckily Robert’s “Resi Omi” is, and she was willing to share her Austrian walnut liqueur recipe with us. Worthy of a winter fairytale, this liqueur smells rich of walnuts and a hint of spice. Organic, kosher and all natural: a veritable walnut grove in a glass. We like it straight after a sleigh ride to grandmother’s house.

Asian Pear Liqueur

Crisp, tart, and sweet with a bouquet of apples and the soft perfume of Asian pears, this organic, kosher, and local (IL) liqueur was made from the fruit of Oriana’s Oriental Orchard, an organic farm in Illinois specializing in unique oriental fruit. This liqueur is delicious straight or mixed with hot apple cider for a holiday party.

Our picks for drinks in two iconic cities: Chicago and New Orleans

Chicago and New Orleans share more than just a history in jazz - they also both love Koval's spirits! Here are some of our favorite spots this month to find our spirits in Chicago: Our Lion's Pride whiskey is at Northdown Cafe and Taproom and Reggie's Music Joint. It's also at The Beer Bistro along with our Bierbrand! Two Sparrows and The Chicago Diner has some delicious food to go with our whiskeys. While The Grafton Pub, SideBar Grille, and  Grange Hall Burger Bar can whet your palette with some local cocktails and great grub.

And in New Orleans, you can go staight to the French Quarter to visit Stella! or Sylvain and get a touch of Chicago in the South. Loa at the International House Hotel has a delicious White Manhattan and Beausoleil  (Baton Rouge) has a Bee's Knees cocktail that's delicious. You can also find our spirits at some beautiful local restaurants Iris, Marigny Brasserie and Bridge Lounge.
